Bath time is one of the funnest times for baby and the scariest for mommy. I remember the first time I gave my baby's a bath, I was so nervous!
Well your in luck. Here are some things you'll need and some tips to make bath time run smoothly.
Baby's with umbilical cord still attached:
Remember you cannot get the umbilical cord wet so always give sponge bathes until it falls off.
Here are things you will need:
A basin
2 wash clothes- one for washing and the other for rinsing
a towel
a blanket to spread on the floor or surface you will place the baby on
a mild soap and shampoo
lotion if you choose
diaper
change of clothes
brush or comb- if baby has hair
Tips:
make sure water is not to hot for baby by testing on your elbow. Keep in mind if it is to cold it will not be enjoyable either.
Leave your baby's diaper on until you are done cleaning all other areas.
wash your baby's hair first.
keep clothes near, but far enough away that they do not get wet.
for the first month or so you will only need to give your baby a bath about 2 times a week unless your baby sweats a lot during the day.
talk to your baby or sing to keep them as calm as possible.
For baby's who's umbilical cord has fallen off:
Here are the things you will need:
baby bathtub
waterproof mat
wash cloth
shampoo and soap
lotion- if you choose
clothes
diaper
brush or comb
an extra towel
Tips:
- Place the bathtub in a place like the sink, table, or changing table so you do not have to bend over on the ground.
- Make sure the water is not to cold or to hot.
- If you place a towel on the bottom of the baby tub it keeps him or her from sliding so much.
- Always keep one hand on your baby and never leave him or her alone.
- Talk and sing to baby it should be a fun bonding experience for the both of you.
